What Tessaly says

Tessaly in Kithicor lends more than one shape. Ask her about a [shape] and she lists them: "Tonight I have more than one shape to lend: [crow] [wake] [moon] [bat] [masquerade]. Go alone; a shape will not hold two of you." Pick [bat]:

The Mask-Taker's sun-priests want to bind the last bat of the night before dawn. It has to get home first. Go alone. The shape will not hold two of you. Are you [ready]?

Your form

A fluttering bat. It is small, fast and fragile, and it fights at level 64 whatever your own level is. - Signature: Bat Swarm - Abilities: Blood Drain (it heals you off your target, and it is your only heal), Wing Buffet, Throw Stone

How it plays out

"You wake small, with leather wings and very good ears. Far off, a priest is chanting at the sun to hurry."

  1. Outrun the dawn. "The sky over Takish-Hiz is going gray. Dawn is coming, and it burns. Fly for home." Fly to five landmarks in order. Each one has its own time:
  2. the palace gate: 30 seconds
  3. the east court: 75 seconds
  4. the west court: 120 seconds
  5. the sunken court: 180 seconds
  6. the old roost: 105 seconds

The distance you are told is a straight line through walls. "Follow the corridors -- the straight line is walled off." With 10 seconds left you hear "Dawn light is at your wings." If the time runs out, the dawn burns you for 150 every second until you reach the landmark: "The dawn light catches your wings. Keep flying!" At the west court, two dawn hunters (level 60) jump you: "Two dawn hunters step out of the west court with nets: 'There it is. The last one.'" Kill them or keep flying. When you reach the roost: "Your roost is ahead -- and it is ringed with garlic." 2. Break the garlic wards. The Sun-Priest shouts: "Little bat. The sun is nearly up. Stay in the light with me." Then: "Three garlic wards hold your roost shut, and the Sun-Priest's circle of light spreads from where he stands. Break the wards. Stay out of the light." The three wards stand on the east, west and north sides of the roost. Every 15 seconds the circle grows ("The circle of sunlight grows."). Standing in it burns you for 120 every second, so break the wards from the edges and stay out of the middle. When the last one falls: "The last ward splits and the smell of garlic fades. The Sun-Priest stops chanting and takes up his staff." 3. The Sun-Priest. "The Sun-Priest of the Mask-Taker stands between you and your roost." He is level 64 and comes straight at you: "Then I will put you in a mask myself." At half health one sun acolyte (level 60) comes in from the palace gate: "The Sun-Priest raises his staff: 'Acolyte! Hold it in the light!'" At a quarter health a second one comes: "The Sun-Priest staggers: 'Another! Hold it in the light!'" Keep Blood Drain going on him to stay alive. "The Sun-Priest falls, and the first light of morning goes out of his staff." 4. The ending. "You drop into the dark of your roost just as the sun clears the palace walls." Then: "Somewhere far off, Hale Morrow, the Mask-Taker, crosses one more mask off his list. It was yours, and he did not get it." Your reward works like every other mission. See the overview.

If the run fails: "The sun comes up over Takish-Hiz, and the shape you wore goes still in the light."
